David Brown for Darien's Board of Education
Meet David:
Board of Education incumbent and election 2024 candidate David Brown strongly believes it is crucial that members operate professionally as elected administrators of the Board’s important mission; promoting educational excellence and high achievement to benefit each learner in maximizing their individual potential, while keeping Darien a desirable place to live. This means learning, understanding, and following the rules and laws that apply to public, taxpayer-funded education, which requires a willingness to gather data and carefully consider information to make informed decisions based on these rules. Additionally, Brown also believes that it is important to develop clear goals and policies, so the Board of Education can accurately prioritize its actions and measure implementation.
With six years of service on the Board of Education and a personal passion for education leading to professional and personal achievements, David is highly qualified and remains committed to serving as a good steward of the largest budget in Town government. David will remain focused on representing the will of the residents and fighting to maintain local control.

Brown and his running mate Robin Nelson believe teamwork is the most important professional skill; members of the Board must work together to understand issues and develop policies that best serve the Town. David has built a close working relationship with Robin during her recent term as a board member.
What David brings to the Board of Education:
David can best be described as a curious, thoughtful, lifelong learner. He graduated from high school at St. Luke’s School in New Canaan, and subsequently earned a Bachelor of Arts from New York University in Economics; a Master of Science in Financial Mathematics from the University of Chicago; a Juris Doctor from the Elisabeth Haub School of Law; and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

After spending several years as a trader, and later as a senior manager in financial markets in Manhattan, David now works at an asset management firm as commercial counsel. Since 2022 David has been the only lawyer serving on Darien’s Board of Education.

David was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and he is the eldest of five children. His family relocated to Fairfield when he was in elementary school. He worked in New York City for several years, until he and his wife relocated to Darien in 2006 for their growing family.

The Browns’ four children are attending and have graduated from Darien Public School. The youngest Brown is entering fifth grade at Ox Ridge Elementary, this Fall.

David believes wholeheartedly that the Brown family has benefited from the strong community built by the generations of Darien residents who came before them. Darien schools create a nurturing environment for all community children to learn, build friendships, and enjoy countless opportunities to grow and thrive. Six years ago, David joined the Board of Education to help continue this vital work.
